Course Description

Most of the world's biggest computer and telecoms companies are doing intensive research and development in speech and language processing (SLP), hoping to perfect technology that will change all our lives. Those companies know leading universities like Sheffield are doing important work in this field. Sheffield is home to one of the UK's largest SLP research groups. That's why our graduates are in demand. You'll study areas including machine translation, speech recognition and document indexing. Combine this experience with optional modules in subjects like e-commerce and software development for mobile devices and you have a very attractive set of skills. You'll be assessed on coursework, exams and the dissertation, which you'll finish over the summer. Recent dissertation topics include accent morphing and voice stress analysis.
