This special course has been designed to provide the highly skilled chemical engineers that are specifically needed by the nuclear industry. You'll specialise in nuclear engineering, through taught modules, a design project and an individual research project focusing on nuclear technology. Our nuclear laboratory module gives you hands-on experience of working safely with radioactive sources, combined with an understanding of regulatory and safety principles. When you graduate, you will be well prepared to work in areas such as nuclear power, fuel reprocessing and plant decommissioning. The first two years of all our courses are the same so you have the flexibility to switch courses, up to the end of the second year.

Chemical engineers are the best paid group of engineers and have the potential to earn more than doctors, lawyers and accountants. We aim to turn out fully fledged chemical engineers who can slot straight into industrial teams designing and operating new processes. We have good relationships with a wide range of global companies - several of these specifically target Sheffield since they like the chemical engineering graduates we produce. As a qualified chemical engineer you can choose from a wide variety of careers including plant management, research, commissioning, process safety, environmental protection, process control, consultancy or sales and marketing. Our graduates work in chemical and allied products, contracting, oil and gas, consultancy, pharmaceuticals, energy, water, food and drink, materials, process plant and equipment.
