Course Details

Master of Mine Geotechnical Engineering

Course Description

The best way to advance in the mining industry is to be armed with the latest skills and knowledge. Postgraduate coursework programs can make a significant difference for those already working in the industry or for those planning a career change. This program is designed for those who work within the underground hard rock or underground coal mining industries, and who have responsibilities in the field of strata control. It has been specifically designed to cater for those professionals with both an engineering and a scientific background. Students study fundamental principles of rock mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, followed by a comprehensive coverage of practical strata control applications. The Graduate Diploma in Geotechnical Engineering (Course Code 5059) will not be offered in 2017, and enrolment to the program has been suspended until 2018. The school’s other postgraduate mining programs will not offer enrolments for semester 2, 2017. These changes have been implemented due to low enrolment numbers. The School of Mining Engineering will review this decision in 2017, with the hope of opening enrolments again in 2018. Students already in programs will be able to continue with their studies, with a view to completing their programs. Prospective or current students with questions or concerns regarding this suspension can speak directly with the School of Mining Engineering.
