Applied Geology involves a more specific interest in the application of earth science for the benefit of human civilisation. Applied Geology includes, for example, surveying metallic ore deposits, fossil fuels and groundwater resources, and applying geological knowledge in a range of engineering and environmental contexts. The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences Masters by Research program requires a minimum of three academic sessions of full-time study and preparation of a written thesis. Applicants should contact the School before applying for admission in order to identify a research field and a potential academic supervisor. Details of the research interests of academic staff and research fields within the School can be found under Staff and Research. The regulations governing Masters (Research) degrees are available in the Science Handbook, Conditions for the Award of Degrees
