Law with German LLB (Hons)

Course Description

This programme draws upon the strengths of both the Liverpool Law School, and the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies to offer an attractive, engaging degree allowing students to maintain their language skills whilst obtaining a Qualifying Law Degree for professional purposes. Students will study the core modules required for a 'Qualifying Law Degree' for professional purposes whilst undertaking advanced study in German language, culture and society. Students will spend their third year abroad, either studying at a partner institution in Germany or undertaking a suitable work placement, thus completing the degree in four years full-time. Why this subject? History. We combine over a hundred years of teaching experience with modern approaches to learning. Alumni include judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and County Court, members of Parliament and legal practitioners as well as accountants, social workers and bankers, who continue to make an important contribution to the learning experience and career prospects of our students. The first female High Court judge in the country was a Liverpool Law School graduate. Developing professionalism. Our students have the opportunity to develop their professional skills through the activities of the School’s pro bono Law Clinic. The Clinic is operated by the Law School in association with members of the local legal community and enables students to enjoy the professional experience of dispensing legal advice to real clients, under the guidance and supervision of Law School staff and practising members of the profession. Mentoring and Careers Development. The Law School Mentoring Scheme allows students to build connections with the profession during their degree. Students are assigned to a local barrister or solicitor who will act as their mentor throughout their studies. The mentor will provide careers advice and assistance to their mentees on a personal and individual basis. This is in addition to the wider careers advisory programmes run by the Law School and the University Careers & Employability Service. Leading experts. Students are taught by internationally renowned and award-winning lecturers who are actively engaged in research. Students’ education will be cutting-edge, innovative and stimulating and closely engaged with the role of law in society. Supportive. Pastoral care is very important in the School, and it aims to provide a supportive environment in which students can flourish. Each student has an Academic Advisor who is a member of academic staff available to support students and assist in their academic development. In addition, the Student Support Officer provides individual support to students who face difficult circumstances which may affect their ability to study, such as managing a disability or coping with bereavement.
