Despite their close relationship, International Law and International Relations have traditionally been taught as discrete subjects. This programme is based on a recognition of the need to allow each discipline to be informed by the other. The programme covers the general methods, scope and theories of International Relations and International Law. The objective of the programme is to develop a critical consideration of traditional approaches to the discipline of International Relations. In the post-Cold War globalising world there is an increasingly apparent need for ever-more sophisticated ways of understanding the dramatic changes taking place. At the same time the programme allows students to consider the role, potential and limitations of public international law in international affairs. For some, this will enable an undergraduate specialisation to be developed. For others, it will enable knowledge of other fields to be applied to International Relations. The programme’s interdisciplinary approach is particularly suited to those involved with, or hoping to work for, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, foreign affairs departments and international law firms. All lectures and seminars on postgraduate modules are informed by the latest research and scholarship, and are delivered by full-time academic staff who have internationally recognised expertise in their field.
