Course Description

This is a one-year programme in Film, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture. The BFA(Hons) consists of a submission of works and a research paper in the same subject, to be completed within an academic year. Introductory film studies are directed towards an understanding of the basic procedures of film and video production and the acquisition of basic craft skills. Advanced studies begin with an introduction to the procedures and skills associated with documentary production and lead to a practical consideration of issues of fiction, narrative and performance in contemporary cinema. While the course aims to encourage students to develop ideas and practices suited to their own creative ends, it also encourages a critical view of accepted practices and an assessment of the commercial realities of production and commercial marketing.
