The Finance group is a very active research group that focuses in particular on the broadly defined areas of corporate governance/ finance and regulatory issues, behavioural finance and in empirical finance, in particular the relationship between financial markets and the real economy including the property market. Staff also foster collaborative interdisciplinary and international research which further strengthens its research base. Staff regularly visit universities in Europe, USA, Australasia and elsewhere as well as hosting visiting staff and seminars. Applicants for the MPhil or PhD should have prior training in appropriate research methods at the postgraduate level. Applicants with a good honours degree in finance or a related subject may instead be accepted for the MRes (finance) degree that may be taken over 1 year full time or 2 years part time. This degree qualifies students to progress into the doctoral programme. Applicants to the MPhil or PhD must provide a detailed research proposal and two academic references from their most recent academic institution. Applicants for whom English is not their first language must also show evidence of attaining standards in English.
