Process and Chemical Engineering BE (Hons)

Course Description

The BE Process and Chemical Engineering degree combines the essential elements of fundamental mathematics, physics and chemistry with food, supply chain, problem-solving, ethics and sustainability. It also includes two specialisation units in Pharma & Biopharma or Energy & Environmental. The programme is accredited by both Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) enabling graduates to become Chartered Engineers after complying with the requirements of additional academic degrees and/or professional practice according to the regulations of Engineers Ireland, the Engineering Council of the UK, or other engineering professional associations of choice. These requirements vary among such associations.

Career outcomes

Graduates of this course can look forward to strong employment prospects in food, drinks, bio/pharmaceuticals, environmental and technical services, finance and management, medical devices and consultancy sectors. Over the past several years all our graduates have gained employment within six to nine months after graduating, according to the Careers Service First Destination Report. The degree is internationally accredited. Graduates are well equipped to work in transdisciplinary teams, across a wide range of industry and business sectors and on a global basis. Since 2013, engineering graduates require an additional one-year Masters-level qualification to be eligible to apply for Chartered membership of Engineers Ireland.
