Solihull College will be delivering a Bachelor of Science with honours (BSc (Hons)) as a one-year top-up option in Applied Sports Science (Coaching). This degree is awarded by Oxford Brookes University and will be delivered at the Blossomfield campus in Solihull. It is designed to provide you with a progression route from a level 5 programme related to Sports Science (eg an HND in Sport and Exercise Science or an FdSc in Sports Science). The BSc (Hons) is designed to follow on from the FdSc run at Solihull College, and intends to further prepare you for a career in sports coaching. It aims to consider, in a greater deal of depth than the FdSc, the theory and practice of coaching, the physiological determinants of performance, and the associated practical skills needed for individuals to become successful coaches. The programme seeks to provide you with work based learning opportunities enabling application of sports science disciplines to employment within the Sports coaching industry. In addition the programme enables you to use enterprise skills and explore opportunities in relevant employment in the Sports Science and coaching industries and the chance to develop your own business strategy. The application of theory to practical situations within a sports coaching context is a key feature of this programme. On this modular programme, allowance is made for you to focus on your chosen interest where appropriate, particularly through the self-directed, dissertation module.
