You will learn about photonics - the generation, manipulation, transport and detection of light - and its many applications in the communications industry. You will also study how nanoscience helps us discover and understand the way matter behaves at the nanoscale. You will learn how it is used to create materials, devices and systems through controlling matter at the atomic level. In your first year, you will study chemistry, physics, mathematics, nanoscience and electronics. From your second year onwards, you will develop theoretical knowledge in photonics and nanoscience, and gain practical and problem-solving skills. You will be able to tailor your degree through course electives to suit your career goals. Honours Your final year is an honours year. You will undertake a year-long reseach project in an industry or research laboratory environment.
