Master of Arts Program in Criminology

Course Description

This curriculum is comprised of 11 three-credit hour courses (total of 33 credit hours). The MA in Criminology curriculum is comprised of 4 required courses (12 credit hours), 6 elective courses (18 credit hours), and 1 research tool course (3 credit hours). There is no thesis requirement, but students must complete a 3-credit hour research project and pass an oral examination (this is one of the required courses listed above). Every course in the curriculum is taught online which provides students with the opportunity to complete assigned reading materials, to submit assignments, to watch video recorded lectures, and to participate in class discussion boards during days and times of the week that are convenient for their personal schedules. Our plan is to offer four courses each Fall semester, three courses in the Spring semester, two courses over the summer months, and one course during the 3-week winter term in January. This should provide students with the opportunity to complete the program in one calendar year. Prospective students may use the links on the right to learn more about the application process, to read an overview of our MA in Criminology program, to learn about the curriculum, and to view a listing of our faculty and their areas of concentration. We have also posted our tentative schedule of course offerings in this new program over the next two calendar years.
