Discover the fundamental skills of sports journalism in the context of print, broadcasting and web on this practice-based course BA (Hons) Sports Journalism will prepare you for this specialist but prolific discipline – the UK alone boasts some 30 dedicated sports TV channels in addition to traditional print and new media. As a budding sports journalist, you'll be equipped with the skills needed to flourish in a multi-media environment. You will also learn about the social, cultural, political and economic importance of sport so that your journalism connects with contemporary debates. You can expect... You can expect to learn how to cover real sports events, interview athletes and profile sports stars and generate original investigations alongside the new skills of digital production. A thorough grounding in the skills needed to produce sports content for all media platforms is provided, which covers newspapers, magazines, broadcasting and the web. Specific areas of study will include research and interview techniques, writing for different audiences, digital production, layout skills and the use of social media. You’ll also develop an understanding of media law and ethics – essential knowledge during your time as a student journalist and beyond. You'll put these skills into practice in a series of real journalism assignments, during which the department's fully equipped newsroom will become your work environment. The bulk of your third year will be spent there, collaborating with journalism and photojournalism students to provide sports-related content for the University's student-run weekly newspaper and website, Arts London News.
