Physiology is one of the most exciting areas of modern biology in which we study how the body works from the molecular/cellular levels up to the functions of tissues and organs. It is a rapidly developing field with wide-ranging applications, particularly for medical science, where the study of disease requires a good understanding of both the underlying physiology and the relevant pharmacology. The changes that occur in cells, tissues and organs in disease, and the drugs that can be used to cure and/or ameliorate the symptoms of disease are introduced as this course develops. The specialism of Physiology with Pharmacology is taught by members of staff from the Department of Cell Physiology and Pharmacology, which has an international reputation for research. This dynamic setting provides an excellent environment for you to experience science at the highest level. As part of the First Year there is an introduction to different topics including, the physiology of nerve and muscle, the motor system, the autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system..
