To enable you to achieve the award of Qualified Teacher Status and to prepare you for your future career by fostering a strong ethos of reflective practice. Teaching and assessment methods All students will learn how to teach children of their specified age range. This will be learned through a wide variety of sessions in University covering all areas of the curriculum and focusing on the skills needed to become an effective teacher; a teaching experience in each term and a range of other experiences both in schools and in the wider community. Upper Primary, Lower Primary and Primary with French Students opt for a specialist area of study from a range of options presented early in the course. For Primary with French students this specialist area will be French and they will complete focused work at University and in schools to develop their skills in teaching this subject alongside all other areas of the curriculum. All specialist studies contribute to one of two formally assessed written assignments which normally lead to 60 credits at Masters level. In addition students are assessed against the TA Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status. The course is full time and this requires full time commitment from students. Primary with Mathematics Specialism Students will follow the course with a strong focus on effective and interesting methods of teaching mathematics. There will be a high proportion of mathematics teaching in all school experience placements. This route will provide students with the opportunity to gain 90 Masters-level credits, and complete an MA within two years of beginning teaching.
