We offer a broad ranging History course allowing you to explore medieval and modern history and British, European and World history, consistently rated by our students among the top ten nationally. We have a friendly, hands-on approach to delivering our courses. Our staff are high achievers in their research fields – the latest research exercises adjudged 90% of their research work to be internationally recognised, with 50% world leading. We achieved 100% student satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Survey, retaining our top billing in the History league tables and reflecting the enthusiasm our students have for the course at Huddersfield and the staff who deliver it. All of our modules equip you with the skills needed by the world of work, such as good communication and analytical skills, independent and team working, and problem solving. In addition, we have innovative assessments which allow you to be creative, including creating exhibitions for local and national museums and making podcasts. We were also the first university History department to introduce a work placement module (see 'Placements' below).

Studying history allows you to keep your career options open. Our graduates have gone on to careers in libraries, archives, the media, industry and the voluntary sector, PR, law and accountancy. Others have opted for PGCE study and have become teachers.
