Course Description

Lawyers who earned their law degree from a non-US law school have four options:  Concentration program (Energy, Environment and Natural Resources; Health Law; Intellectual Property & Information Law; International Law; or tax)  Foreign Scholars LL.M.  Foreign Scholars LL.M. program with certificate  Summer LL.M. program, http://www.law.uh.edu/llm/Summer-Program.pdf Certificate Option Students admitted to the Foreign Scholars LL.M. program that begins in August have the option of pursuing a general course of study or, in addition to the LL.M. degree, earning a certificate in:  Energy, Environment and Natural Resources  Health Law  Intellectual Property & Information Law  International Law  Tax Law Students earning a certificate must: complete 24 credit hours - including Introduction to American Law (3 credits), Lawyering Skills and Strategies (3 credits), register for a minimum of 12 credits of certificate-specific coursework, and maintain a 2.50 grade point average. Although there is no thesis requirement, students have the option of writing a shorter seminar paper. The certificate option is only open to students admitted to the Foreign Scholars LL.M. program. Students can identify the certificate area upon admission to the Foreign Scholars program. Summer LL.M. All students admitted in the summer are placed in the Foreign Scholars program and do not have the option of earning a certificate or admission to concentration. The summer LL.M. program is designed for students who want to complete a 24-credit program in substantially less time (June-December) than other LL.M. programs.
