Petroleum Engineering (MPE)

Course Description

Instead of the Masters of Petroleum Engineering (courses only) option, students may apply to the Academic Advisor for Petroleum Engineering to pursue a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering degree requiring 24 credit hours of approved courses beyond the introductory level in Petroleum Engineering plus 6 credit hours dedicated to the Masters Thesis. Such an option is particularly appropriate for students intending a career in research and who intend to pursue a Ph.D. degree. This option is offered on a special basis and with limited availability. The requirements for this option are to be admitted into the Masters of Petroleum Engineering (courses only) degree program, successfully complete at least six credit hours with grade of B or better, identify a faculty member willing to serve as Thesis Advisor and obtain his or her agreement, submit necessary forms to the Academic Advisor for Petroleum Engineering, propose a preliminary thesis topic to the Thesis Advisor and the Director of Petroleum Engineering and obtain their approval. The Director and Thesis Advisor will form the Thesis Committee, but the student is free to nominate members of that committee for approval.
