Course Description

This programme covers the areas of inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry. In addition it provides experience of good laboratory practice and topical investigations. It is primarily aimed at people who are employed or wish to seek employment in a chemical or related area. The programme is often used by employers as their training programme and we have also delivered the qualification on industrial premises for the last ten years. Starting from September 2012 the HNC Chemistry programme will be available by either of the following two modes of study: * HNC Chemistry - taught at the Medway campus (attended) * HNC Chemistry by Distance Learning Aims of the programme * To provide students with a broad knowledge of chemistry and associated practical skills in order for them to become competent to practice in a range of professional environments and to progress to degrees in chemistry, pharmaceutical science and analytical chemistry. * To develop in students the ability to apply their chemistry skills and knowledge to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in chemistry. * To develop a range of transferable skills which will be of value both during the programme, and subsequent degrees. * To develop group working and relating to others, together with problem solving and task management.
