MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration)

Course Description

Our MSc Physiotherapy develops your knowledge, skills and attributes to enable you to work with clients in a health care profession concerned with maximising the potential of human function and movement. Physiotherapy involves working with people to promote their own health and wellbeing and restore movement and function, where possible, when someone has been affected, by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability. Successful completion leads to eligibility to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) as a physiotherapist. HPC registration is required to work as a physiotherapist in the UK. Our programme aims reflect the general learning outcomes and the requirements for professional practice. These are to produce graduates who are: 1. fit for practice; 2. eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council and membership of the professional body, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy; 3. reasoning, reflective, sensitive practitioners with the requisite knowledge, skills and professional attributes to provide an effective service to all population groups; 4. equipped with the skills and flexibility of thinking necessary to function effectively in the complex, ever-changing environment of the health service setting; 5. committed to undertaking continuing professional development; and 6. able to work effectively, both individually and in groups, across a variety of settings and within multi-professional teams. We also educate pre-registration nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists and oral hygienists – to name a few – as well as providing on-going professional education for qualified health and social care staff. This means that you not only study alongside other health professionals learning with them, but you also get the opportunity to learn expert knowledge from them! All of our Masters level pre-registration programmes are offered as accelerated programmes. This means you have the advantage of interprofessional learning (IPL), encouraging professionals to learn with and from each other – an understanding that helps to ensure our students have the expertise to respond adequately and effectively to the complexity of their service user needs, and ensures that care is safe, seamless and of a high standard.
