The UCLan BSc(Hons) Mathematics degree equips students with a thorough overview of modern mathematics covering a range of topics from pure and applied mathematics and statistics. Our Mathematics course is designed to provide you with an excellent foundation in modern mathematics and to develop your skills and knowledge over a broad area of the mathematical disciplines. Maths is the most fundamental of all subjects and underpins science and technology with applications in a wide variety of disciplines. To complement the mathematical content, development of transferable skills is integrated within the Mathematics course. These include writing reports, giving presentations and group work which are skills that are highly desired by employers. This makes use of team-building events including a residential visit for all students to Tyn Dwr, the UCLan outward bounds centre in North Wales. UCLan’s Maths degree enjoys a good reputation and has been approved by the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications (IMA). In the 2012 Guardian League Table for mathematics, UCLan was rated 5th in the UK, and top in the North West, with 99 per cent of our students satisfied with their education.
