Course Description

The Abuse Studies modules of the course will provide you with a chance to study how abuse occurs in various contexts. It also provides you with the opportunity to undertake voluntary work within different communites to understand the issues in 'real world' settings. The Psychology modules of the programme have been designed to provide you with the skills to study people and it explores the key concepts involved in understanding both yourself and the behaviour of others. The programme covers the core topics needed for BPS accreditation and allows you to choose specialists routes in the final year. The Combined Honours programme offers you an opportunity to study two subjects at degree level, enabling you to benefit from high quality teaching across a diverse range of courses.

Career outcomes

Many graduates pursue careers in local government, housing, family care, charities, and social work, as well as the established criminal justice system such as the police, prison and probation. Graduates also go into administration and managerial jobs. Graduates with a second class honours degree or above will be eligible for Graduates Basis for Chartership with the British Psychological Society; this is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Our recent graduates have gained employment in the teaching, banking, financial, education, healthcare, charity, local authority and retail sectors. There are also opportunities available for postgraduate study and research.
