The Cardiff Biomedical Science BSc is a research-led degree which explores the elements of the biological sciences found in medical practice research. On this course, you will study human physiology, anatomy and neuroscience. At the end of your first year, you will have the option of continuing with a broad approach or choosing to specialise in one of three specific fields: anatomy, physiology or neuroscience. As a biomedical science student at Cardiff, you will have a large degree of choice with regards to what you study as there are a wide range of optional modules on offer. These modules and research projects reflect the School's diverse research interests in the field. The Professional Training Year offers you the opportunity to spend a period of 9 – 12 months in an academic, clinical or industrial research laboratory or other approved establishment to gain first hand research experience. At Cardiff School of Biosciences you will be joining a large and vibrant community of students and academic staff. We have over 100 dedicated and enthusiastic academic staff across a wide variety of disciplines, including world-renowned researchers in their respective fields (for example, a previous Head of School, Sir Martin Evans, won the Nobel Prize for medicine in 2007). The academic atmosphere provides ample opportunity for you to explore your chosen subject in depth, and to discover aspects of the biosciences that you may not have previously encountered.
