Course Description

Why do courts make the decisions they do? Why do governments pass the laws they pass? Our Law and Society program will provide you with an understanding of how society shapes law and how law shapes society. You’ll examine what the law says and what the law does – and the difference between the two. Our program takes a critical approach to addressing the relationship between law and society by using real problems and examples so you can better understand the impact of law on people’s lives. It will also increase your awareness of the many social factors that effect law, such as race, gender, age, sexuality and class. Law and Society provides a thought-provoking and rewarding liberal arts degree that will be useful in personal and professional situations. Knowledge of law and legal processes provides excellent preparation for a career in the law.
