Course Description

The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) is a four-year undergraduate degree. The first two years of the programme provide the core foundation of the degree. Years three and four allow specialisation whereby students are encouraged to explore diverse areas including exercise and sport science, sport and leisure studies, exercise prescription and management, Māori physical education, dance, teaching and learning, and outdoor education. It is a well established, highly respected degree, and leads to a variety of careers. The degree emphasises teamwork and helps students develop important interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on critical thinking, effective communication and creative problem solving. The programmes of study occur in a context that encourages interactions between our students and people from all walks of life - including people with disabilities, elite athletes, academics, business people, scientific and educational researchers, and researchers and individuals from various cultures.
