Digital Film and 3D Animation Technology BSc(Hons)

Course Description

The world of visual effects is challenging, exciting and ever-changing. The UK visual effects industry is among the most highly rated in the world and this is your chance to become a part of it. You'll develop the technical and creative skills to create the visual effects you see in the cinema. You'll look at concept generation, filming, 3D modelling and pre-vis/animation as well as compositing, rotoscoping and paint and matchmoving. Our academics have a range of skills. We're experts in digital integration of CG material to live action, 3D modelling, animation, lighting and rendering, digital compositing, digital painting, cinematography and post production. We've worked for the BBC and ITV as well as visual effects houses Double Negative and Framestore. You'll get to work with some of the best technologies and facilities. These include our large state-of-the-art HD TV studio, green screen studios, post-production suites, state-of-the-art digital cinema cameras, HD camera, motion capture studio, Unreal and Crytek games engine, Spheron VR AG camera system, lighting and grip gear - and you'll have access to our Cintiq Wacoms. You'll also use software from Autodesk, The Foundry, Pixel Logic and Adobe.

Career outcomes

When you graduate you will be able to approach film/video production houses with a broad knowledge and skills-set competing for jobs in computer animation, visual special effects and integrated 3D technology. If you are interested in other approaches to computer animation, including 2D drawing (anime manga), claymation, experimental animation as well as digital, also consider our BA(Hons) Design Animation course.
