Master of Rural Medicine

Course Description

The Master of Rural Medicine will provide an academic structure to support training towards the specialty qualification of general practice including rural medicine. Current programs to support this training are funded by the Commonwealth with limited positions available exceeded by demand and directly through the specialty Colleges of General Practice and Rural Medicine with limited structured academic support. This program will involve the development of high levels of research knowledge and skills to enable graduates to analyse evidence, determine the applicability of evidence to practice, generate critical questions and conduct research. Graduates will contribute to the development of best practice through the acquisition and generation of research that supports evidenced-based general practice including rural medicine.

Career outcomes

Graduates will be prepared for assessment for vocational recognition or will have completed at least one triennium of continuous professional development requirements of the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
