Course Description

Deakin's postgraduate IT courses provide a combination of leading-edge theory and technical knowledge plus hands-on practical experience to prepare you for a successful career as an IT professional in Australia and around the world. The Master of Information Technology is designed to provide specialised information technology skills by giving you up-to-date knowledge of recent developments in computing technology, as well as covering the technical and theoretical foundations of these topics, giving you the opportunity to apply this knowledge in practice. The course provides a leading-edge study environment, helping you to become a qualified IT professional with the skills required by employers. As a graduate, you will possess a sound knowledge and understanding of general issues, concepts and practices in IT and a broad knowledge and understanding of the technological aspects of IT. You will also be encouraged to develop a raft of generic skills enabling you to be an effective and efficient IT professional. Students enrolled in the Master of Information Technology can elect to exit from the program after completion of four units. Students electing to do this will qualify for the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology. Students electing to exit after completion of eight units will qualify for the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology. Students who seek this option will be eligible to seek membership with the Australian Computer Society at the associate level.
