Dublin City University (DCU) is Irelands university of Enterprise. Situated on an 85 acre active and rewarding campus, which is full of student life, sports and leisure facilities, DCU has grown rapidly in scale and performance since being established as a university in 1989. With the city just a 10-minute bus drive away, students of DCU have the best of both worlds; the social and cultural benefits of city life, but with the security and vibrancy of a university campus built very much for today. DCU, with a student population of almost 11,500 and close to 2,000 non-Irish students from 116 different countries, is recognised as centre of academic excellence in education and research. DCU offers International scholarship scheme to academically strong undergraduate and post graduate international students. The university has developed its own research specialisms and has created a number of national centres of excellence that have transcended traditional boundaries. These research facilities are amongst the best in Ireland, and the campus houses leading research centres in areas such as cellular biotechnology, neuro-therapeutics, chemical sensors and biosensors, plasma technology, biomedical diagnostics, machine translation, telecommunications and adaptive information technology. DCU aims to foster innovation and creativity and to elucidate the pathway to discovery through advanced teaching and research methodologies. The university seek to prepare next generation leaders, entrepreneurs and transformational thinkers through its Graduates Attributes Programme. DCU was the first university in Ireland to introduce paid work placements, INTRA, as an integral part of its degree programmes, giving students a special edge with Irish companies.
