Course Description

The programme is delivered on a full-time basis over a single academic year. Together with taught modules which are delivered over the course of two semesters, students undertake a team-based major project during the summer months for completion in late August. The programme is structured to provide a grounding in a wide range of multimedia technologies, applications and creative problem solving approaches to interactive new media products and services. The structure also facilitates students to extend their specialist competencies in video, imaging, sound, web development, animation, project management, multimedia authoring, media enterprise, e-learning and new media installation, in line with their individual interests and orientations. The programme's approach to student-centred learning is reflected in the emphasis on team-based projects and assessments, while also providing considerable scope for individual choice

A DCU Multimedia qualification is recognised worldwide and is much in demand in Ireland. There is an enormous diversity of opportunities within the industry. Former graduates are currently employed as web developers, graphic designers, imaging specialists, content writers, advertising creatives, project managers, sound designers and lecturers. The nature of the businesses for which they are employed ranges from the creative and entertainment industries to e-learning companies, and from universities to the museum and heritage sectors. Students have been recruited by companies such as Martello Media, TDP and EMG in Dublin and a variety of digital media establishments abroad.
