Forensic Science with Foundation Year BSc (Hons)

Course Description

Criminal prosecutions depend on evidence. That evidence has to be safely and intelligently collected, stored, analysed and reported by forensic scientists. Our course will prepare you for an active role securing justice for victims of crime, and a safer society for us all. The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences logo In your foundation year, you’ll cover key areas of chemistry, biology and maths. After that, you’ll learn how to collect and analyse a range of evidence at crime scenes and in the forensic laboratory; and how to conduct thorough, independent investigations and research, and report fully and clearly on your findings. By the time you graduate, you’ll have an understanding of the UK legal system and your role in it. You’ll be able to assess the value of your observations and conclusions as evidence in a court of law, and understand how this affects your analysis. Many members of our teaching staff are practising forensic professionals. Under their guidance, you’ll perfect your skills in our simulated crime scene. You’ll be able to choose from a range of module topics, giving you the chance to develop specialist knowledge in particular areas.
