Course Description

MA Applied Theatre is an exciting taught postgraduate degree that offers the opportunity to explore key concepts and methodologies in applied theatre and performance. It is a practice-focused programme that places your own work as a thinking practitioner at the heart of investigations into processes and techniques. It provides you with the opportunity to develop advanced skills and knowledge in the use of theatre and performance in participatory, community and social contexts. Applied theatre is an umbrella term, embracing participatory performance and workshop activity that often have social, political or developmental objectives. This developing field is sited across a range of contexts including education, health, with local communities or other interest groups. MA Applied Theatre is part of a vibrant suite of practice-based taught postgraduate programmes in the creative arts, also including fine arts, theatre and music. Each of these Masters programmes are designed for practitioner orientated study and research, providing you with the opportunity to develop your creative practice and reflective thinking within a supportive community of artists and robust culture of enquiry. Whilst your focus will be on Applied Theatre, there will also be opportunities for exciting cross-disciplinary study across these two programmes. The programme is aimed at both recent graduates and those already with a work profile in drama, theatre or performance. MA Applied Theatre offers you opportunities to professionalise your own practice in the wider community, explore established techniques and enhance theoretical knowledge and research skills.
