Course Description

The aim of the course is to prepare students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to enter an apprenticeship in the construction industry. With the course's close links to employers, successful graduates will have significant advantage when seeking employment. Semester 1 class times are Monday to Wednesday, 8 am–4 pm where possible, and follow the primary school holidays. Semester 2 class times are Wednesday to Friday, 8 am–4 pm where possible, and follow the primary school holidays. Programme Outline The course covers practical trade skills (with underpinning theory) in the following: Use and maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment including hand tools, portable power tools, machine tools *Erecting profiles, setting out and levelling houses exercises *Sub-floor framing *Erecting frames and trusses *Erecting ceilings *Construction of framework as required *Site safe certificate *First aid *Health and safety
