Foundation Diploma in Fine Art

Course Description

The Diploma in Fine Art is a very practical programme with the main emphasis on creative work within the studio. You will learn a variety of skills, including drawing, sculpture, 3 dimensional work, painting, printmaking, mixed media and contextual studies. You will train your aesthetic eye and develop a language through which to express your ideas. You will acquire an awareness of past and present fine art practice. Students are taught in small groups and given one-to-one tutorials. All students have a dedicated space in which to exhibit their work as they develop their sketchbooks and portfolios under the expert guidance of our staff. There are regular opportunities to go on research and drawing trips outside of the studios and to experience the diverse range of local galleries.

Career outcomes

WLC has a progression agreement with UAL, which comprises six prestigious London colleges including Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Arts. WLC students are guaranteed an admission interview to a BA (Hons) programme with a UAL college. Students may also consider progressing onto Goldsmiths University, UCL Slade School, London Met University - Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture & Design, Falmouth University, Birmingham City University, Anglia Ruskin University and Middlesex University. It will also enable students to pursue careers such as: artist, illustrator, graphic designer, architect, textiles, curating, promotion, marketing, theatre set design, interior design, animation, art historian, studio assistant, film, product design, and teaching.
