BBA in Accounting

Course Description

Accounting majors learn to help organizations manage money and materials in order to monitor and report on organizations’ financial well-being. Eligible students may add a fifth year to their studies to earn a master’s degree in accounting and meet the educational requirements for licensure as a certified public accountant. The Integrated Master of Accountancy degree program provides students with direct experience in the field through spring internships. This program stresses in-depth study of tax law in a variety of areas, including business tax, individual and estate tax planning, multijurisdictional tax issues, and tax administration. Accounting Honor Society students serve the community by participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin Credit Union. In 2015, 23 students contributed more than 250 hours of service to help 240 taxpayers, including those in low-income positions, complete their tax returns. Together, they delivered more than $520,000 in federal and state refunds—with no cost to their clients.
