Course Description

Firstly, you will concentrate on core traditional and digital skills for animation and animated storytelling. You will then work to find your individual specialist areas, identify your strengths within small production teams while working on live briefs and work towards high levels of skill in animated outcomes – whether these are in pre-production (eg concept, storyboard, backgrounds, character design) or in 2D traditional or digital/stop-motion production (eg character animation, set, props, puppet and model-making) or post production compositing. Year one Introduction to Animation Techniques Animation Action Analysis Character Design, Modelling and Animation Visual Studies: Animation Contextual Studies: Animation Animal Studies for Animation Year two Major Project (Animation) Advanced Animation Techniques Minor Project (Animation) Critical Studies: Animation Visual Forms in Animation and Computer Games Narrative Forms in Animation, Comics and Computer Games Visual and Narrative Forms in Animation CCI Work Experience CCI Work Experience Year three Project Production (Animation) Specialist Advanced Animation Projects Project Development (Animation) The Animation Business Critical Research: Animation Graduate outcomes can be in the form of short animated films or a showcase reel.

During the second year of your animation degree, there is an opportunity to apply for a place on our exchange programme to study at one of our partner institutions internationally. Many career opportunities exist in the animation industry.
