BA Archaeology and Anthropology

Course Description

The BA Archaeology and Anthropology degree prepares you for an exciting career in research, teaching, forensics, crime scene investigation or archaeology. Through a combination of lab, field and classroom work, you will gain an understanding of the human skeletal system and how it can help us unlock the secrets of how our ancestor's lived. The Archaeology and Anthropology Ba degree programme provides you with a thorough and riveting insight into world history, focusing on prehistory, the shocking world of the Vikings, archaeology and society, as well as a sound practical knowledge of how to undertake archaeological fieldwork. Study will focus on the findings produced from osteology and you will spend time in the lab examining samples from our vast library of bone findings. Studying Archaeology and Anthropology means you be able to attend a one week field school at the end of your first year, and then participate in a minimum three weeks fieldwork as part of an active research project. This is usually undertaken during the Summer vacation of the first or second year of study and may be in the UK or overseas. Opportunities for undertaking further fieldwork, including participation in overseas research projects, are also available.
