Course Description

Develop your German language skills while discovering the mysteries of the ancient world with the BA in Ancient History and German. On this combined BA course at the University of Southampton, you will study the linguistic aspects of German, enhancing your vocabulary through German literature. You will also examine world history in 40 objects while building your knowledge of German history, politics and society. Through this combined BA in Ancient History and German degree, you can work towards a successful career in teaching or translating, both in the UK and abroad, or start a lucrative career in the media or helping with exhibits within museums. This BA programme enables you to combine the acquisition and consolidation of a high level of proficiency in German with the pursuit of your interests in Ancient History and the ancient world. In Modern Languages you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and competencies in a wide range of content areas and disciplinary strands which are at the core of languages cultures and societies. It will equip you with a solid understanding of your chosen language and its context of production, history and society and will enable you to critically engage with its cultures. In History you will have the opportunity to study and research to a high level, equipping yourself with specialist knowledge in your chosen areas of study.
