The Interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree with a major in art education is designed for college graduates who already hold a professional certificate in art or who are academically certifiable by virtue of course work previously earned. Upon completion of the I.M.A. degree program, recipients will be eligible for a South Carolina Class I certificate in art. Major emphasis in this program is placed on course work in the teaching area.

# IMA/ MA students in Art Education explore art criticism to further develop and define their skills of discussing and deconstructing works of art. # IMA/MA students in Art Education complete a course in Art Criticism (ARTE 555) to further develop their skills in aesthetics and criticism. # MA students in art education investigate various research methodologies to effectively teach art. # IMA/MA students in art education explore problems in addressing special needs and multicultural perspectives as they relate to teaching art. # IMA/MA students in art education explore current view of issues and trends within the discipline. # IMA/ MA students in Art Education explore developmental change in visual arts education exemplary programs to help them become agents of change in their own schools. # MA students in art education write papers or produce art in 9 hours of electives from Art Education, Art Studio, Art History, or Professional Education.
