Course Description

The faculty and students of Penn Engineering's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department are uniquely positioned to engage in today's world challenges and opportunities. From alternative energy to advanced materials, from cellular engineering to computational modeling, Penn CBE research touches aspects of life from the economy to healthcare. Penn's CBE graduates may be found in the nation's top universities, corporations, research laboratories, and industries. At Penn Engineering, sophomores may find themselves working alongside doctoral students and postdocs in the laboratories of renowned professors. Interdisciplinary collaborations across Penn, including the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Medicine, the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter, and the Penn Center for Energy Innovation, create cross-fertilization of ideas and teach both students and faculty to look at problems from novel perspectives. The chemical and biomolecular engineering discipline focuses on understanding and controlling chemical and biochemical reactions and the physical and chemical behavior of fluids and solids. Chemical engineers develop detailed knowledge of these disciplines along with engineering principles for application to products ranging from fuel cells to pharmaceuticals.
