Sociology is an excellent background for a variety of careers, including the business world, where graduates might work in marketing and sales or human resources, or government or private services, where a graduate might work in education, health services, social welfare, criminal justice, or research. The master’s degree program emphasizes theory and methodology. Students may design, with the approval of advisors and the Graduate Committee, curricula suitable to their past experience and intellectual goals. The department welcomes applicants who plan to continue for the Ph.D. as well as students planning for the M.A. only.
