A Bachelor's of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota prepares students for rewarding careers in industry and for graduate work. A strong background in mathematics, physics and chemistry is balanced with courses in engineering science and applied engineering. The Department offers several elective and cross-disciplinary programs that provide further in-depth study in designated areas of the profession. These include: system design and control; manufacturing engineering; computer-aided design; thermodynamics and heat transfer; environmental engineering; power and propulsion; materials engineering; bioengineering; and mechanical-electrical engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Throughout the year, students also participate in collegiate, national and international competitions that provide real-life experience in research, development and design. Check out the Student Groups web page for information about the Solar Vehicle Project, Baja and Formula Car Projects and other extracurricular activities.
