Mechanical Engineering B.S.

Course Description

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org and provides its graduates with a very comprehensive engineering education. A major strength of the program is its emphasis on hands-on experience. Graduates are fully prepared to pursue work in industry, or to continue on for graduate education in engineering, business, and medicine. The curriculum is designed to graduate engineers who can apply fundamental principles of mechanical engineering with competence and sensitivity to the needs of society. To achieve this goal, students follow a sequence of courses beginning with basic mathematics and science, followed by their application to courses in engineering science and engineering design. Relevant clusters of studies in the humanities and social sciences are included within the context of engineering education. The department offers several tracks for students with different levels of preparation in mathematics and English. It may take some students five years to complete their degree.
