Career outcomes

Earning a degree in classics is a great way to get a general humanities education. Employers want imaginative and creative people who can deal with concepts and abstractions and who are good writers and close readers - just the skills students develop while studying classics. In recent years, KU classics majors have gone on to become teachers and professors not just in classics but in related fields such as history and comparative literature. Many have also gone on to law school and medical school. The Classical Languages major in particular prepares students to do graduate work in classics, comparative literature, or archaeology (archaeologists must have an advanced knowledge of both Greek and Latin). Students who wish to teach Latin in secondary schools can also combine this major with a degree in the School of Education.
