The mission of the IA-Certificate is to provide students with the most up-to-date theory and practice in the field of Internal Auditing. The Accountancy & Taxation Department at the C. T. Bauer College of Business has one of only 6 internal audit programs in the world and one of only 3 in the country to be recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Institute of Internal Auditors. The IA offers courses in Internal Audit that can culminate in a certificate at the Undergraduate level. These courses are taught by current practitioners in the Internal Audit field, who bring a wealth of real world experience to the classroom. Networking Students involved in the IA-Certificate are provided increased opportunities to interact and earn internships with firms that employ Internal Auditors. Through corporate events held on campus, Colloquium courses, and mixers, students are able to network with the top employers in the Accounting industry. The Internal Auditing Student Association gives students who are interested in careers in Internal Auditing the opportunity to network with other students with the same goals to build networks and to further their mutual interest in the field of internal auditing. “Internal auditors serve as independent, objective consultants and help improve an organization’s operations by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. The Internal Audit Risk Track at the University of Houston equips students with a diverse set of skills in Internal Audit.
