The national certification program known as American Humanics celebrated a new chapter in its history beginning January 2011. After almost two years of study, the American Humanics Board of Directors met in March 2010 and moved to change the name of our organization to the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, making the relationship between our name and our mission unmistakable. Although our name is changing, our mission remains the same as it has been since we were founded in 1948. Our national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations continues to be dedicated to educating, preparing and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations. Now, as the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (formerly American Humanics), we are expanding our existing programs and establishing several new national initiatives to further enhance the value we bring to our partners. These initiatives include: Formalizing a credential that is nationally accredited, thereby enabling students who complete our certification to have a letter designation behind their name that is easily recognized and valued by the nonprofit sector. Continuing to develop internship initiatives including our nationally recognized NextGeneration Nonprofit Leaders Program (NextGen), which is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, providing each student intern with a $4,500 stipend. In addition, we are also developing a national internship program that will provide Washington, DC based policy-focused internship opportunities to AH students. Creating the first major national nonprofit management and leadership professional development experience, slated to launch in the summer of 2011, which will provide nonprofit managers and leaders with both practical skills and leadership consciousness. Gathering baseline data from the nonprofit sector for industry standardization of the competencies necessary for professionals pursuing nonprofit careers. Working with the National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA) to promote and recruit high school students to nonprofit careers. Recognizing the time and resources that our partners will need to successfully implement the new name, logo, and tagline, we are working with a brand rollout task force to make our brand transition as seamless as possible.
