Course Description

Quantity surveying is a dynamic profession developing essential skills related to the planning and procurement of construction activity with involvement in various parts of the design and construction process. Whether it’s advising a client about this month’s valuation, or speaking with an engineer to assess the cost implications of a design solution. This new programme develops, enhances and deepens those skills in accordance with industry practice. The course is aligned to professional practice in the construction industry with working industrial links to ensure technological relevance. It has been developed in close collaboration with industry so you’ll acquire and develop the knowledge and skills applicable to practice as a Quantity Surveyor. You’ll learn through group work, individual assignments, lectures, seminars, site visits, field studies and site/building surveys and all serve a variety of functions essential to the education of Built Environment professionals. Assessment of project work is undertaken on a continuous basis, involving either individual or group assessment, as determined by the nature of the project. Assessment of group work can involve an element of peer group review which contributes to the overall performance of the individual student.

Quantity surveyors are highly sought after due to their financial and business acumen and many hold very senior positions in industry, local government and central government. Opportunities also exist in a number of related fields, including the built environment, civil and heavy engineering and the offshore and petrochemical industries.
