Course Details

B.Sc. in Environmental Science

Course Description

The B.Sc. in Environmental Science provides an opportunity to apply many different aspects of science in an interdisciplinary context to investigate Earth, environmental impact, climate change, ecosystems, the sustainable development of natural resources, natural hazards, and other important environmental and resource issues currently facing Canada and the world. Environmental science is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, and attempts to understand the environment by applying the principles and tools of chemistry, physics, biology, geology, and geography to the natural world and to understanding societal impact on the environment. Only through such an approach can we understand the processes and inter-relationships in the complex system that is the environment. This program is well-suited to students interested in science, but do not necessarily want to be in a lab, as opportunities exist for combining fieldwork and lab work. An Environmental Science degree can also provide appropriate background training for professional schools (law, medicine, business administration), and the combination of a B.Sc. and professional degree (such as an MBA) can be very attractive to employers. With the correct choice of courses, our B.Sc. degree provides the knowledge requirements for professional registration as a geoscientist, which is a requirement for working in certain ares of environmental science.
