(M.A.) Ecumenical Studies (MESt)

Course Description

12 months (60 ECTS credits), for the 4-year BA applicants 24 months (120 ECTS credits), for the 3-year BA applicants The programme includes a combination of both compulsory and elective modules. In the winter semester, all students are required to take BHA (Biblical and Historical Aspects of Ecumenical Studies), and may choose either ESS (Educational, Sociological and Systematic Aspects of Ecumenical Studies) or LBC (Looking Beyond Christianity). In the summer semester, all students are required to take ESR (Ecclesia Semper Reformanda: The Christian Denominations Past and Present), and may choose either ETP (Ecumenism in Theory and Practice) or CSS (Church, State and Society).

Career outcomes

Expertise acquired in the MESt will prepare graduates for a wide variety of future occupations. Some of our students are pastors who desire to supplement their knowledge with further post-graduate education. But this degree is not limited to students interested in pursuing religious ministry. By gaining a post-graduate degree from the University of Bonn, students are qualified to apply to doctoral programs, thus preparing themselves for a career in higher education, be it in a university or seminary context.
