Course Description

BSc (Hons) Building Surveying & Property Management is a broad-based degree that will equip you for a career in this rewarding and varied profession or enhance your wider career prospects. You will study a broad range of relevant disciplines that will give you the practical knowledge for carrying out surveys, making property valuations, assessing repairs and preparing specifications and plans for building work. You will develop a thorough knowledge of the regulations and laws relating to buildings, land and property and learn the management skills relevant to the profession. The department has excellent contacts with the construction industry and you may have the opportunity for short-term work placements as part of your studies. About the course The department offers an extensive range of surveying equipment and testing laboratories, as well as the University’s unique design studio facilities in Senate House which include CAD software and hardware. The course is part of a suite of construction industry courses offering you the opportunity to carry out interdisciplinary work with students on associated courses. This includes a group project, which simulates what happens during a construction project from inception to completion, in which you will carry out the role of the building surveyor within a team of other construction specialists. Your project will be assessed by a panel which includes representatives from industry and the professions. As the department has close contacts with the industry you may have the opportunity to take part in site visits. Professionals from the construction industry, including former students, regularly give talks and lectures on the course. Our dedicated staff team will provide you with a high level of support throughout your studies. All the teaching staff are construction industry professionals with extensive experience and knowledge of the industry and they are all active on the industry’s professional bodies.
